Site Preperation

Below, we've outlined some necessary steps and tips to help get your building site ready for installation.

A7 Buildings delivers and installs quality engineered structures that are designed with our clients needs and affordability in mind! Generally speaking our metal buildings and carports are priced super competitively when comparing not only traditional building materials, but also installation methods. Thus we do require some involvement from our clients, which does help keep the cost down. This would include preparing your building site correctly for a smooth installation process and the longevity of your building or carport.

Steps for Site Preparation

1. Clear the building site and ensure accessibility

  • Remove debris and vegetation: Make sure the area is free of rocks, trees, shrubs, and any other obstacles.
  • Check if ground is level and square: An even surface prevents structural issues. Refer to our YouTube playlist, "Ground Prep" here for more guidance.
  • Allow for easy access: The crew should be able to access the site within 50 feet; if access is restricted, additional charges may apply.

2. Foundation Preperation

  • Concrete Slab: Pour a concrete slab to the exact dimensions of your metal building for a solid base.
  • Crushed Concrete or Gravel Pads: If a full concrete foundation isn’t necessary, consider a gravel pad elevated 8” above grade to improve drainage.
  • Dirt Pads: If using dirt, extend the pad 5 feet on each side and monitor for erosion after heavy rain.

3. Local permits, codes, and any approvals

  • Obtain Necessary Permits: Local building codes often require permits for new structures. Ensuring compliance before installation helps avoid delays and costly citations.
  • Research Setbacks and Easements: Be aware of property boundaries, setbacks, and right-of-way restrictions that may impact the location of your building.
  • Necessary Approvals: Be sure to check with other governing agencies such as your HOA that may require additional steps and approvals.

4. Prepare for install crew

  • Check for Overhead Power Lines: Metal buildings cannot be safely installed under power lines.
  • Remove Physical Barriers: Ensure there are no obstacles such as fences, other structures, or significant slopes that might block access.
  • Check Lift Requirements: Your building may require a telescopic lift for install. Check with your dealer as you may be responsible for providing the lift.
